Ruby on Rails & Jumpstart Pro

For over 20 years, countless companies of all sizes have turned to Ruby on Rails for rapid web app development. Airbnb, GitHub, Shopify and other big startups were able to quickly iterate to success due to its best practices which other popular frameworks adopted. Its ease, features and common sense conventions make building and long-term maintenance a breeze. Ongoing innovation with Hotwire and other key components demonstrates how the Rails community continues to invest in cutting-edge technologies that enable you to focus on the problem you're trying to solve, not get mired down in technical details of how to get there.

For business-minded organizations who don't want to waste valuable time reinventing the wheel, Jumpstart Pro provides the best SaaS template for Ruby on Rails. Many projects do not require a native mobile app, especially since it's possible to make compelling responsive web apps which perform well in mobile browsers. If you do require native mobile apps, Jumpstart Pro also offers iOS and Android templates so you can reuse all the business logic and user interfaces of your web app instead of writing separate UIs for each. Not only is the initial development far faster, it greatly reduces the ongoing burden of maintaining both your server and mobile code. Your dev costs will be cut in half but more importantly you'll see profits sooner. Everyone from your CEO to your product manager will thank you due to the faster turnaround time!

Here's a story from our founder Stephen Huey...

I met 2 companies around the same time. Both were in trouble and needed new mobile apps built. If you have any experience launching mobile apps to Apple's or Google's stores, you know the journey is fraught with potential costly missteps and not for the faint of heart. Read on for what how I tackled these business needs...

The first company had already tried hiring contractors who had created separate iOS and Android codebases, but the business owner had discovered that it was difficult for their contractors to keep the 2 codebases in sync. Also, their server solution was not scalable, but that's a longer story than we have time for! I explained to them how we could put a scalable Ruby on Rails backend on the server, one that would be able to grow with their business and adapt to changing requirements over time, and also that we could leverage the Flutter framework to have a single mobile codebase that generates the native iOS and Android apps. In other words, all the mobile app logic would be in one place even though they'd have apps in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. Doing it this way saved a lot of costly labor over having developers build each of those mobile apps separately, and it reduced product management overhead in the long run.

The other company had also already tried contractors who built a low-code mobile app solution that they quickly realized was too limited for their road map. It was a social network for the energy industry called Collide. They also had aspirations of combining this idea with AI search over a vast repository of energy data. At the time, their budget was quite limited, but I explained how we could quickly launch an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) and iterate from there based on traction and funds. The first major milestone shipped live in a little over a month! Within a few months, the new iOS and Android apps were being downloaded by their users. This was possible with a small budget and team only because I had leveraged Jumpstart Pro in tandem with Jumpstart iOS and Jumpstart Android. While the other company's Flutter solution reduced the workload over typical native app development lifecycles, the end-to-end Jumpstart solution was the fastest dev process by far, and ongoing maintenance overhead was far lower because the Jumpstart mobile app templates are designed to automagically utilize the same server business logic and UI of the web application, so most of your logic for both server and client apps is in ONE PLACE. The rapid deployment impressed investors and they received $5 million in funding. They had no in-house programmers, so I personally helped interview their first full-time programmer hires. Without Jumpstart, none of this would have been possible so quickly with their budget constraints!
